Why For Kids’ Sake?◊ For Kids’ Sake is a Texas-based program that began with funding from the Texas Bar Foundation in 1993. ◊ For Kids’ Sake was developed by a team of legal, mental health, child development, parent education, and law enforcement professionals. ◊ For Kids’ Sake is a comprehensive program based on reliable research in child development, stages of grief, and other issues involving children of divorce. ◊ For Kids’ Sake is available in both English and Spanish. ◊ For Kids’ Sake is one of only two programs nationally with published research demonstrating reduced litigation in couples who have attended our seminars compared to those who have not. ◊ For Kids’ Sake attendees have consistently over an eight-year period rated the program as either extremely helpful or very helpful at a 93 percentile. ◊ For Kids’ Sake is nationally networked through the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, Congresses on Parent Education and with leading experts in the field of divorce education. ◊ For Kids’ Sake maintains an open-ended curriculum and format so that it can be flexible in accommodating the newest research and teaching techniques. ◊ For Kids’ Sake utilizes a wide variety of teaching techniques to increase learning among participants. Research shows this approach to be much more effective than a didactic format. ◊ For Kids’ Sake is currently in over 50 counties throughout Texas, as well as in other states, and offers a broad base of ongoing training and networking for program facilitators and administrators. *For Kids’ Sake does not require attendance in children’s programs, but rather provides parents with information on support services and groups for children. The overwhelming sentiments expressed by legal and mental health professionals at the 1998 Congress on Parent Education were that children should not be required to attend divorce groups, but that their parents should have the right to make that choice for their children. |
